New Post

Sometimes during your runs .. you see things that you just want to hold on to forever. Well, this post is not about that. It is about pictures I have taken recently. Hehehe    Sunrise from the bay   I don`t know what is happening here .. but it seems that the tug boat is trying to pull the entire island of Luzon into the Spratlys. Oh by the way, recently I have been also trying to run without my Zensah leg compression sleeves. I have been using them ever since my shin was injured while training for last year’s edition of BDM 102.     I love them, but I guess I couldn’t be too dependent on them.  ...

Just Run Jun06

Just Run

I have noticed that lately, I have been so dependent on technology when I run- so I decided to train this morning without my GPS watch. At first, I felt uneasy not knowing what my actual pace was but after around 3 KMs – I didn’t mind at all. I finished  my easy 18km (yes, I know the distance because I have measured this route before) this morning in 2:31  – it was supposed to be my recovery run for yesterday’s 20km but I enjoyed the slow pace so much      My GPS watches : Garmin 405 and 305. My 305 suddenly died just 8 months after I purchased it. The thing about GPS watches is that they suddenly malfunction just when you have gotten used to training with them. So my advice is this : don’t be too dependent on technology....

Battle of the bottles :) Jun03

Battle of the bottles :)...

Hydration is an important part of training.  So at any given point in your runs, you should have access to  your fluids. Carrying them with you is a must, but it should be done in a manner that would be convenient to you. So as far as water bottles go, I’d prefer the handheld ones on my regular runs and a bladder based system on the longer ones. I have just been given an Ultimate Direction Fastdraw Plus water bottle and since it is new , I decided to  use it for my  last 4 short runs – the average distance of each run is around 23.5 kms.         While I was using it, I couldn’t help but compare it with my existing Amphipod Hydraform Handheld bottle – I use two versions: the 20 oz and the 12 oz. I know a lot about this has been previously posted on the web. So let me give you the short version:     •    They both can carry the same volume of fluids (20 oz) •    They both have wide enough  “mouths” for  ice to fit in •    The pouches that come with them can accommodate almost the same items (keys / phone / cash, etc) •    Ultimate Direction has a big finger loop : you can attach it to a carabiner , just like you would do on Nalgene sports bottles. •    Physically, I like the way Ultimate Direction looks like and also how it fits my hand, not to mention  how easy it is to adjust the strap; the thing is – I find it difficult to sip fluids from the nozzle and everytime I squeeze it, it doesn’t return to its original shape: I have to open the entire...

Bound Sep01

Bound

The 4 day weekend was contaminated. It was laced with laziness – so no long weekend runs for me, It was just carbo-loading all the way. I was lucky enough tho, to squeeze in a 7 km run last Sunday and a 26km run last Tuesday. This morning i ran around 23km and yes – still lazy; i started my run at 7 am and finished at around 10 am. Let the pictures speak for the laziness at hand …. Damage brought about by the storm. Endless bludgeoning … now the same culprit lay still, timeless and bound. As I’ve said … Lazy. Maybe I should buy a bike...

Sleepless

Mileage This is distance which i have covered for the week : Monday    – Rest day Tuesday   – 20KM Wednesday – 10KM Thursday  – 20KM Friday    – Rest day Saturday  – 0KM Sunday    – 31KM I covered the entire 31km this morning without any sleep due to work. Running with protective eyewear helped a lot – less glare for my tired eyes. Scorched Earth Last Sunday, I started late (read:7am) and the sun was already at its mightiest. If you would still like to do your long run at this time, I suggest that you run in loops. Just make sure that there is a public restroom with running water which you can pour on your body to decrease your body temprature and a convinience store for hydration fluids and food in the loop which you...

Thoughts in The Rain Aug07

Thoughts in The Rain

Milo Marathon Last week, I joined the Milo Marathon and finished it in 5 hours 14 minutes. Milo Marathon is one of “the” running events in the country.  Being able to join it this year is a first for me, since this is my 1st official Milo Marathon. For the past 2 years, i only joined the half-mary event due to injuries.   Although the route is the same as the previous years, this year was a bit different since  the starting / finish line was moved from the Quirino Grandstand to the Mall of Asia and the routes for the shorter distances (3/5/10k) were changed –  i think this was to prevent the fun runners from consuming all the hydration fluids near the finish line. This proved to be effective since this is the first time I experienced still being able to hydrate  near the finish line. Kudos to Milo and Runrio!   Running in the rain It is the rainy season again and almost all my running shoes are wet. Drying them is a pain. So here is a little tip to make it a bit easier: Remove the insole of your shoes Wash your shoes Let it drip for a while Put paper in your shoes (an entire page of your broadsheet would do) Replace the paper whenever necessary The logic behind it is to let the paper absorb the water from your shoes. When I do it, it usually takes a day before my shoes dry up. Oh by the way, i heard that body glide isn’t as effective in the rain. Is this true ? It’s a good thing that i have always used petroleum jelly.   Asics Gel Kayano 15   The thing about new running shoes is that...
